Seeking the welfare of the city
When God sent the wayward nation of Israel into exile, He commanded them, “Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, for in its welfare you will find your welfare” (Jer. 29:7).
But why is this relevant today, to this newsletter? Christ declared, “You are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world” (John 15:19), and God through the Apostle Paul confirmed, “Our citizenship is in heaven” (Phil. 3:20). So, disciples of Christ live as exiles here on earth, patiently awaiting the return of our Savior. However, we do not detach from the world, rather we have a duty to it—the same duty that God gave to the Israelites of old. Christ commands us, “Love the Lord with all your heart. … Love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets” (Matt. 22:37-40).
In addition to the demand of Christ, Americans have the patriotic duty demanded by our country and our forefathers to “provide for the general Welfare,” as stated in the Preamble to the Constitution. The founders of this country knew that without careful guidance, the fruit of their labors would decay. John Adams said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
The welfare of the United States of America is quickly declining as We the People abandon virtue, and that, in turn, jeopardizes the welfare of my neighbors and myself. Therefore, this newsletter is my endeavor to love my neighbors as myself by analyzing the state of the Union and looking for solutions to restore a country worthy of the Constitution.
For too long, the virtuous citizens of this country have kept quiet, and we now stand at a crossroads: either continue the comfortable route of silence and bear the shackles of tyranny, or take the uncomfortable path of speaking out for liberty and justice. I choose the latter option, and, more importantly, I hope you will stand with me together in defense of “all that is good and right and true” (Eph. 5:9), for “iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another” (Prov. 27:17).

“Posterity! You will never know, how much it cost the present Generation, to preserve your Freedom! I hope you will make a good Use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in Heaven, that I ever took half the Pains to preserve it.”
